Doorway pages (some times named billboards, bridge pages, jump pages, portals, portal pages, entry pages, pointer pages, etc.) are single web pages that are created to rank high in the major search engines for a specific keyword of phrase.

When people visits them, they find a link that takes to the main site or sometimes they are automatically redirected into the site.

That's why you may have visited many doorway pages without noticing it.

Doorway pages optimization are in a growing trend being considered spam by search engines, especially when they are just a copy of your main site's pages, and are created with the automatic redirection.

If you are a home business company that sells 50 different products online. It is impossible for you to optimize one page to cover all your products across all the different search engines, because each engine is different.

Submitting doorway pages to the Directories (as Yahoo) is too going to be considered as spam. Directories will only list one page from your web site on their index. So if you do doorway pages optimization, don't submit your doorway pages to them, or you'll be banned.
